All that flying has got us thirsty....and hungry! Time for a snack.
Now, time to burn some calories.....

I am not the only wild animal around....
There are lots of these little critters, called quokkas, running around. And that is how Rottnests island got it's name. Willem De Vlamingh, a Dutch mariner thought that Rottnests quokkas looked like giant rats. When he landed in 1696 he named the island "Rat's Nest Island", or in Dutch, Rottenest Island. The "e" was eventually dropped and today it is also affectionately called Rotto by local West Australians.
The Quokka is a small macropod, about the size of a domestic cat. Like other marsupials, the Quokka is herbivorous and mainly nocturnal. In the wild, its roaming is restricted to a very small range in the South-West of Western Australia. The Quokka has become rare, but, remains a protected species on islands off the coast of that area. The islands are free of foxes and cats.
